About Your Walk Leader: Jo Fallows

As well as being joint founder of Vanlove, Jo is a qualified mental health therapist with a passion for all things health, wellbeing and outdoor adventures.

Some sections of the trail are a bit rugged (especially in the rain!), so sturdy footwear is a must. And when we hit the road sections, we’ll stay mindful of passing vehicles. Please be aware that this 10-mile walk does not include any first aid support, and by participating, you do so at your own risk; if at any point you feel unable to continue, ensure you have reviewed the route beforehand to know how to safely return to the campsite.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

As this is a total no frills event at a remote wild camping location, you will need to come prepared with your own food and drink for the weekend and sufficient gear to survive whatever the Welsh weather throws our way (it can be incredibly unpredictable at this time of the year!) as well as correct footwear should you wish to join the hike. Please also ensure you are fit and able as this 10-mile route is not for the faint hearted.

Please be aware that Coco’s Wild Camp is part of a working farm and so access may be muddy or slippery for vehicles (although the tractor is always on hand to help anyone that gets stuck!)

Vanlove is not being paid or making a profit putting on this event, it’s just for fun. The only charge to come is the standard £10 per head per night Cocos charge on the day, paid directly to them on arrival.

COCO’S WILD CAMP

ABOUT COCO’S:

What’s the best thing about Coco’s Wild Camp? The spectacular setting in 400 acres of Powys hill country? The utter peace on site? Or the wildlife you may spot? In fact, it’s probably a combination of all three aspects that makes this spot near Llandrindod Wells a most desirable escape from the hurly-burly of everyday life.

This is a place for contemplation of the near-endless views and a place to enjoy walking in gorgeous countryside. On your ambles, watch red kites hover above the hills, and look out for hares and rabbits running around in the fields. You may be lucky enough to spot a deer, too.

And if you don’t spot any wildlife, you can always interact with all the friendly farm animals – sheep, horses and goats included. The star of the show here is undoubtedly Coco, the donkey who lends his name to the place, who will soon have you all beguiled with his antics – especially if you feed him free carrots from the site shop.

You can camp in a bivvy bag, tent, a car, a camper, a caravan, a car roof tent or a mobile home. Coco’s provide compost toilets, access to (not for drinking) water, the Coco’s Diner Van for those easy dinners and breakfasts if you want a night or a morning off and somewhere safe to empty your chemical toilet and barbecue ashes.

In return they request you care for the land, take your rubbish home, leave no trace, ensure fire pits and barbecues are raised, dogs are kept on leads at all times, the playing of music is kept respectfully low and is off by 11pm and they don’t allow your view or the atmosphere to be spoilt by generators or laser lights.
